Hi friends. I am finding myself at a loss for words these days. This last week has been the weirdest and most difficult week of my life. I wish I could say otherwise, but it is true.
However, I have realized that I as I write and talk about this (as awkward as that is sometimes), I must look at this through a lens of humor. I have to, it is just how I operate. And my dad is the same way. He is one funny dude.
So, if I write things about my dad's imprisonment and the trial that my family and I are enduring in a way that seems comical, flippant, or less than sincere, please know that it is not my intent. It is just how I cope.
Because believe me, this is the most serious thing I can imagine right now.

Limbo Land
You bless me with your words. Truly. They are food for my tender soul. And they encourage my family more than you can imagine.
They moved my dad today. He was in the county jail and now he is in Alamosa at a minimum security facility. He called and said he was doing fine and was wearing his suit, the suit he wore to court on Monday. For some reason this makes me smile, I love that mental image. I guarantee he is the best dressed inmate there...at least until they give him a new wardrobe.
Tonight my mom and I watched his favorite show and we are hoping that at some point he will have access to TV. We also have stack of hilarious cards that are ready to be sent. Tomorrow we should have his new address.
My mom told me that this is not going to become her "new normal." Instead, this is just the limbo period until she gets her old normal back. I am thinking I agree with this. I find myself clinging to whatever sounds normal.
The saints continue to amaze us with anonymous gifts and love. Someone brought over the best potato soup ever and I am pretty sure I could eat it everyday for a month. Who knew the potato was so delicious?
Oh that's right, the Irish. Well that makes sense.
And I have discovered that my manicure of two weeks is officially gone. It left yesterday when I realized that transparency was needed on this blog. Being vulnerable on the world wide web is new for me and it makes me nervous and scared. But I admit, it also comes with a lot of freedom. Thanks for hanging in there with me.
87 more days until the appeal.

Monday
It is time for me to be more authentic with you.
By nature, I am a glass half-full kind of gal so most of my posts are usually lighthearted and fun. But as we all know, life is not always that way. Trials face us from every angle and suffering of some kind is usually around the next corner. I have always wanted this blog to about the fun things in life because I know each of you face trials and suffering of your own. I wanted this blog to be a place of entertainment and escape.
However, a life without suffering and trials is not an authentic one and it is time for me to share my life with you.
On Monday, my dad was sentenced to 10 years in jail for a crime he did not commit.
10 years.
My brain is having a hard time believing this even as the shock has worn off. Or maybe the shock hasn't worn off, I am not sure. And I know this must be a surprise to many of you, especially if you know my dad.
My kind, gentle, hard-working, amazing dad.
This trial has been going on for years. So many times I wanted to write about it, to talk about it and to share my ups and down with you, but this was a confidential case between my dad and one of his clients. A client that accused my dad of stealing more than $200,000. But I had to honor my dad in his wishes to treat this as a business matter. My dad is a great business man and all along he thought this lawsuit would resolve itself.
But after five years, a plea bargain, a month in jail, my dad's law license being revoked, loss of employment, and a judge who did not once decide in his favor, this process had finally led us to a sentencing hearing on Monday.
On Monday, our friends (saints, actually) packed the courthouse. It was a magnificent sight to behold and brought so much encouragement to my dad and the rest of my family. And these same friends, while offering powerful praises and petitions to God, also offered more than $200,000 of financial restitution on behalf of my dad. It was an example of the body of Christ in motion. Unbelievable. Completely humbling. There are no words for this. None. I truly believe this is what the church was meant to look like, just like in Acts.
But at the end of the hearing, after the judge had heard from countless others who defended his integrity, trustworthiness and character, he still ruled against my dad, even with the full financial restitution being offered. The judge, knowing an innocent man was before him, still chose to send him away. The judge chose revenge over restitution. And my family, friends and I watched my dad be taken into custody and led away. This is not something I would wish on anyone. Ever.
I know this is shocking. I apologize for the abruptness of it. And I am sure you have questions. Honestly, the case is so complicated that I will be the first to admit that I do not have all the answers. But I wanted you to know. I needed you to know because I couldn't keep writing without being honest with you. It would have been a lie to let you believe my life is all about cupcakes and trips around the world.
In reality, my life is about believing and trusting in a God whose ways are not our ways, whose thoughts are not our thoughts. Believing and trusting in a God who defends the innocent and weak, only in His perfect timing, not our own. These last few days have been so very difficult yet so very comforting at the same time. But for the grace of God I would be in a padded room right now, I guarantee.
As we look ahead, my dad's attorney is doing everything he can to get this sentence reversed. In 88 days, this appeal can be presented before the court and with the financial restitution in hand, we are praying that his sentence will be greatly reduced or reversed completely.
In the meantime, we are experiencing an outpouring of love like we have never seen before. It is overwhelming, to say the least. My gratitude knows no end. It makes me want to love and serve others in the same exact way: radically, without reservations or hesitation.
And I will keep you posted on my sweet, amazing dad. I spoke with him yesterday and he sounds good, just tired. And I reassured him that his character and integrity speaks for itself, no one has ever doubted his innocence. If he comes to mind, please pray for his safety and peace of mind. Pray that he leans on the Lord for understanding and wisdom. And pray that my family can continue to seek God's face in the midst of this.
I cannot comprehend what it must be like to be imprisoned for something you didn't do, but we know from history that God has used this situation mightily. I look to Joseph, Daniel, Paul and Peter as my constant reminders.
"For do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10

Top Ten: Things I Learned About Planning a Wedding
Okay, so this may be the last of my posts about weddings for a little while. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE weddings, but I am bit on overload, if you know what I mean. I am still dreaming about tulle and place cards. That is just not normal.
But before I depart from this blissful topic, I thought I would share with you some of the crucial things I learned while helping Claire plan her big day. And please keep in mind that I have not planned my own wedding which may make all of these suggestions null and void when that happy day comes.
Are you ready for this? Here we go.
1. Flowers die. Therefore, don't spend a lot of money on flowers. For Rachel's wedding, she ordered hers from Costco and they were stunning. They were also extremely affordable. The day before her wedding we all sat around and made our bouquets. It was perfect.
2. Don't stress over invitations. Since Claire only had 10 days to plan her wedding, she just called people instead of sending an invite. However, if you have longer than 10 days, I would encourage you to not fret over those puppies. They are pieces of paper that will be thrown away and no one will remember if you used crimson instead of burgundy. I promise.
3. Having a restaurant do your reception is the way to go. Maggiano's did an amazing job. Claire and Carr picked their faves from the menu and they were steaming hot when we arrived. And she didn't have to worry about decorating or cleaning up...which meant that I didn't have to worry about decorating or cleaning up.
4. If a wedding planner is in your budget, I would encourage you to get one. You can control the price by determining how much you want them to do. But they are oh-so helpful when you can't be in two places at once. And they are even more helpful if you have less that two weeks to plan your big day.
5. Favors, although thoughtful and always appreciated, are not essential. Your guests are just happy to be with you and if there is free food, total bonus.
6. Manicures and pedicures are a must. I am now addicted and I don't even have fingernails.
7. Take time to enjoy the day. Claire was so calm and collected and that made everyone enjoy the process of getting ready. The bridesmaids hung out and chatted, the make-up artist took her time to make us each look fabulous, the moms sat around and talked and everyone came and went, grabbing food on their way. It was totally relaxing and enjoyable.
8. Less is more. Right before Claire went outside to take her first set of pictures, she was covered head to toe in pearls and lace and tulle and sparkles. At the last minute, she took off her pearl necklace and her birdcage veil (she wore it for the ceremony). All of sudden you could see her face! And it was like she wore the dress, not the other way around. De-cluttering made a huge difference.
9. Wear false eyelashes. Trust me on this, you won't be sorry.
10. If possible, don't have a long engagement. When Claire first told me that they had 10 days to plan their wedding, I almost went into cardiac arrest. But throughout those crazy 10 days, I realized that being with the one you love should not wait. Marriage is what is sacred, not the planning. Once you are engaged, run as fast as you can to the altar and don't look back.
So there you go, that's all I have to say about that...at least for today. And someday, if I am ever engaged, and I am suffering from a severe case of bridezilla, please remind of these things so I can focus on what's really important, like the manicures and false eyelashes.
And happy Friday to you!

Paparazzi
During our photo shoot on Friday with the lovely bride, I left my camera under a nearby tree along with my flip flops and hairspray.
However, once the pictures were over, I turned around to see that my camera was no longer where I left it; instead it was around the neck of my six year-old nephew.
Case in point:
For the next hour, while Claire and Carr were busy posing, Noah followed the photographer around and took every shot he did. In fact, once I was able to retrieve my camera, I saw that Noah had taken over 200 pictures.
Here are a few of him I took on my phone:
Oh my gosh, he kills me. And by the way, doesn't Claire look stunning? I mean seriously.
I began going through the 200 shots he took and I came across some amazing photos. Take a look:

The Wedding
And I'm back.
I have been lying on the couch for almost two days and I am thinking I could use another two to fully recover. But let me tell you, it was completely worth it. In every way, the day was perfect. And Claire and Carr couldn't be happier.
Friday morning, just as my parents house was beginning to buzz, a sweet friend brought Chick-Fil-A breakfast and lunch for the entire wedding party. It was incredible and a very delicious way to start the day.
Soon after, the bridesmaids, Carr's parents and the groomsmen arrived and the house was packed full of happy, chicken-eating people. In the meantime, Claire was busy packing for her mini-moon and then had her hair appointment. By the time she got home, the make-up artist had finished on all of us and we were ready to help Claire get bride-ified.
Or whatever that word should be.
When we arrived at the DU campus, the boys were dressed and ready to go. Once again I am faced with the reality that boys have it SO EASY! One of the groomsmen said that he was able to get a nap and watch an episode of Friday Night Lights. Meanwhile us girls were gluing fake eyelashes to our eyeballs and trying to make sure we had enough hairspray on our hair to withstand the next twelve hours of pictures. Not. Fair. At. All.
Here are a few well-dressed gents:
I can never resist a six year-old in a tux.
Claire finished getting ready and took a few pictures with us girls. But then came the moment they had waited for: it was time for Claire and Carr to see each other. She stood in a small grassy area partly shaded by trees and had her back to him. He walked up to her, fully dressed in his dressed whites, and tapped her on the shoulder. At that moment the rest of the world melted away. It was really very sweet and beautiful
Sigh.
And then it was time for a billion pictures, which should be ready for viewing in 6-8 weeks. But here is a candid shot of the happy couple, a few attendants and me.
I think I was fluffing. Or maybe one of my eyelashes fell off, I don't remember.
After the pictures came the most serene, meaningful ceremony I have ever seen. My dad walked her down the aisle perfectly, I stood in my spot without falling over and Noah was flawless as the ring boy. And Claire and Carr were calm and happy the entire time.
When the ceremony was over, a 1930 Chrysler Imperial with a chauffeur named Kirk, whisked them away to Maggiano's downtown. Here's a picture of the car, isn't it fabulous?
By the time we arrived at the restaurant, I was more than ready for some serious carbohydrates. The wait staff had prepared a private room with hot appetizers waiting for us. Sweet Noah fell asleep before the salad was ever served while the rest of us made our way through four courses of cheesy goodness. Next came the toasts and I was able to give mine with only tearing up once.
And then we danced like our feet didn't hurt. It was such a wonderful way to not only finish the day, but to finish the marathon we had been on for the last 10 days. Like I said before, it was perfect.
Thank you for all of your well wishes and encouragement these past few days! You have been fantastic! I promise to post more pictures soon but I wanted to give you a glimpse into Claire's special day.
And feel free to congratulate Mr. And Mrs. Lewis when you see them again. They'll be the ones smiling. A lot.

How To Pull Of A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 10
WE MADE IT!!
We have arrived. I don't know whether to cry or sleep. I'm thinking both. Granted we still have the big day to get through, but I already feel triumphant. By the sweet grace of God we have made it through the last ten days. The dress is bought and ready to be bustled, the venue is perfect, the restaurant reserved, the tuxes rented, flowers arranged and the cake baked by a sweet Peruvian woman.
It is time to get jiggy with it.
Day 10 was a culmination of everything you need to have done but still have yet to do. My aunt Patricia flew out from California and ran errands with my mom. Claire also ran last minute errands and I drove around trying to find earrings and a wedding gift. By 3:00 Claire and I were squeezed into a dressing room wrestling with her dress for its final fitting. And let me tell you something: she looks breathtaking. I can't wait for you to see her.
I must also take this time to tell you about Rosie and Mandy. Rosie is reading Scripture in the wedding and is a close friend of Claire's. She spent the entire day housesitting our apartment. She unloaded our dishwasher, hung up Claire's clean clothes, answered the door for deliveries and just made our place so calm and peaceful. She was a true gift and I highly recommend a house sitter the day before any wedding.
Mandy is a new friend of mine and she printed off all of the programs, cut them to size and folded them. She is delivering them to my parents house all ready to go. This was so extremely helpful. She's definitely a keeper.
It takes a village, people. A village.
The rehearsal was fabulous. It went smoothy and everyone hopefully knows their parts. Even Noah has become an expert at carrying a teeny tiny pillow.
Afterward, we had dinner at Elway's. And let me just tell you that their steak will change your life. I KID YOU NOT. I could have cut it with a spoon.
Carr's parents are fabulous and came ready to celebrate. They have set the bar high for in-laws. Claire always has been perfect so it is fitting that she has wonderful in-laws. Punk.
Here are a few pics for you:
So here we are.
Today, after the hair appointment and the make-up artist, the photographer and the guests, Claire and Carr will officially be married. And to think that six months ago they had just gone on their first date.
It's amazing what God can do in six months. And it is even more amazing at what He can do in 10 days.

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 9
Good gravy. Today is the last day. HOW IN THE WORLD DID THAT HAPPEN?
Claire is typing furiously on her computer right now while I am updating the blog. She woke up earlier today than she does for work. That's just not natural. But apparently she has a lot on her mind and the least I can do is supply her with coffee and occasional cheers.
But I have to be honest with you for a minute. When Claire and I both get stressed and tired, we argue. This is not good, especially on Day 10. I know I should be mature enough to not argue but there is just something about a sister that brings it out in me.
Stupid, stupid sin nature.
Well yesterday brought my last day of work (big thanks to my boss!) and a mom and sister mani /pedi. It was at a place called Fancy Fingers and we had the best time. My hands now look like they belong to a girl instead of a logger.
My lady's name was Barb and she asked me what I was going to do now that I was losing my roommate (I have been asked this question at least 20 times in the last 9 days. And the answer is still "I have no earthly idea.") So Barb suggested that I buy a dog or two. I told her that I preferred a husband.
Claire got her hair highlighted and then spent the evening with Carr at their new apartment. They are literally right across the street from me and they have already said they will be over every night for dinner. I may just surprise them and show up at their house for dinner instead. Although they don't have dishes right now so I may wait until their registry kicks in.
I came home and laid horizontally on the couch for three hours. I was beginning to feel sick but there is nothing like a little Modern Family and a dinner of frozen pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and a glass of wine to make you feel as right as rain!
In other news, Carr's parents arrived last night and I am really looking forward to meeting them. I realize that I am the only extrovert in my entire family so I'll try to be on my best behavior.
Today is our sprint to the finish line! Claire and I will pick up her dress and learn how to bustle it, we will have the programs printed, Noah's tux fitted, plus there is last-minute shopping and the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. It's going to be a very full day.
Thank you again for being the best readers ever. Seriously, you have made this process so much more fun! If I could, I would bear hug you right now but I am really trying not to mess up my manicure. I am really digging my girl hands.

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 8
Oh man, I love girlfriends, and yesterday was all about them! Claire wrapped up her last day of work as a non-married woman and came home to a decorated house and dinner almost on the table.
"Almost" because my brother dropped by just as I was finishing up and ate some of my food. So typical.
Here are a few shots of my two punk sibs:

And right after this shot, Claire's girls arrived. Thankfully.
We had dinner, chatted about the wedding and the mini-moon and dresses and everything in between. It was the first time I had seen Claire relax since this marathon began. These girls are so good for her. And I'm pretty partial to them too. They made the evening perfect!
Heather, Rosie, Claire, Rachel and Yours Truly.
Take Two.
Darling Kayla. She had to leave early so I snapped this picture.
(When in doubt, don't use a flash. Just don't.)
Sisters.
So the festivities have officially begun! Parents are flying in, pedicures are about to happen and all of the planning and preparation is beginning to pay off. Even though these last 8 days have been insane, I am beginning to think there is something to this short engagement. Claire always has been really smart.
Two more days, little sister!

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 7
Day 7 was a Monday so that meant back to work. Is it weird that I see going to work as a break from my current schedule?
Last night Claire, my mom and the wedding planner went to a cute little bakery called Azucar for a cake tasting. The bakery is owned by a Peruvian woman and my mom said she is an amazing baker. I think it is somewhat ironic that the one field trip I cannot go on happens to be the cake tasting, by a Peruvian baker, no less. But not to worry, I'll eat two pieces at the wedding. Claire and Carr decided upon a carrot and almond cake slathered in cream cheese frosting.
Um, yes please.
But last night, in preparation for the bridal shower dinner tonight, I made a Mexican Chocolate Ganache Tart with a cream cheese and butter crust. I was so tempted to take a spoon to it this morning but I refrained. But I am pretty sure it is taunting me right now.
Here are a few other random facts and events of which I am sure you are dying to know:

Here are a few other random facts and events of which I am sure you are dying to know:
- Thank you to all who have asked about Noah. He is doing great and should get his staples out on Saturday. Claire will always have her wedding pictures as a memory of that event. He is one tough kid!
- After much ado and fanfare, here is my dress:
I love it and I can wear it again. Imagine that.
- And here are my $29.00 shoes:
Simple, elegant and comfortable, a triple threat.
- I am still looking for earrings. They need to be black/gold/cream or some such combination. Any ideas or suggestions? I am thinking I am going to visit Francesca's tomorrow to see what they have to offer. And hopefully I won't spend my entire paycheck at that store.
- I bought a new brand of hairspray on Sunday. (I know this is riveting, but just go with it...) It has changed my world in the last 48 hours. Usually, because my hair is so heavy, hairspray doesn't even work for 5 minutes but this stuff works ALL DAY. Now I know my hair will hold on Friday. It is "Spray and Play" by Big Sexy and it is on sale right now at Ulta. I am thinking of buying stock in this company.
- The wedding is 3 days away. Amazing! How is Claire old enough to drive let alone get married?
- God is a God of details. Just plan a wedding in 10 days and you'll see Him in action.
I'll be back tomorrow with highlights from the shower. I hope your day is wonderful!!

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 6
Apparently numbers confuse me.
When I first started this ten-day countdown, I thought that starting at 10 and working my way to 1 would make the most sense. But then I saw that it was more of a tutorial and you needed to build upon each day, not count down. For example, my original Day 9 should have been Day 2 and so forth. So now I have renumbered the past posts and this is the actual Day 6, not yesterday's Day 6 which was actually Day 5. Obviously I was looking at it all wrong.
I am glad we cleared that up. That was a close one.
So yesterday was Day 6. We are totally in the home stretch, peeps. Where last week was all the planning, this week is all the doing. Last night was the last free night I will have until Saturday. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of cool stuff lined up, but I am pretty sure I am going to need a body double at some point. And a few wardrobe changes.
Day 6 saw everyone going their separate ways and tackling their own shopping lists. Claire had her dress fitting for alterations and then she and Carr attempted to register for more than just a humidifier. I am pretty sure they were successful because I just saw a crock pot on their registry that I am now coveting. Yes, that's what I said, a crock pot. Is it possible for MOH's to register too? I think it would be a very natural thing to do.
They also officially launched their wedding website. You should check it out, it is super cute!
My agenda read as follows: I went to church, ate pumpkin pancakes at The Original Pancake House with my friend Lizz (priorities, people), and then I cleaned the apartment and ran errands until 6:00. I found shoes for my dress that were on sale for $29.00. They are black satin with a big rose on the side. And for $29.00, it would have been a crime not to buy them. I also found a dress to wear to the rehearsal dinner on Thursday and some new mascara.
Speaking of mascara, I could dedicate an entire blog about it. Don't you just LOVE mascara? I am in the hunt for the perfect mascara right now...what is your fave?
I also think it is starting to sink in that Claire is moving out. It is such a natural thing, of course. But I will really miss having a roommate that is also my sister. Once you have this, it is really hard to go back to the random roommate situation. So therefore, God either needs to bring me another sister or a husband.
Honestly, either one would work at this point.
Here are some other highlights:

Here are some other highlights:
- Claire is trying to decide upon wearing a long veil or a hair clip with a small birdcage veil. Or she may not wear anything. Hopefully she'll decide this by Friday.
- I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies last night and put them in my freezer for anyone who comes over this week. So, you know, come on over.
- We may have to change our mani/pedi to Wednesday so we have enough time to go to rehearsal on Thursday. Apparently rehearsing is important, especially if a six year-old boy is involved.
- I am applying tanning lotion to my legs everyday so that by Friday I may have a hint of color. I thought about wearing hose but the last thing I need is for them to wiggle down during the ceremony. Do you see the decisions that plague me right now?
- Claire and Carr have set aside 20 minutes everyday to just sit by each other and rest. I am thinking this is an excellent idea. Those two are looking a little weary.

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 5
Where in the world did Day 5 go? I'll tell you where it went: dress shopping.
My three dresses finally arrived yesterday afternoon and I had just enough time to try them on before the florist appointment. Much to my dismay and perhaps the beginning of an ulcer, I determined that none of them would work. None. As in the designers forgot that I have hips.
So it was off to the mall(s) to find the perfect MOH dress. We searched high and low but I am happy to report that I found it! And it is beautiful. The top half is white and the bottom is black. I know I may sound like an Oreo, but trust me, it is divine. And Claire said it was okay if part of it was white. I was really happy to hear this because I was quickly losing steam. And since I will be the only attendant standing up there with her, I want to feel good in what I am wearing without having to wear three pairs of Spanx.
And speaking of which, I am completely certain that Spanx are the best invention ever created next to the salted caramel mocha. I am pretty sure the Spanx people knew that too.
Here are some other highlights from our day:
Thank you again for your encouragement and cheerleading. Seriously, you all are tops!

- Claire and Carr found an apartment! Awkwardness avoided.
- We met with the florist yesterday. She made flowers sound like they were priceless works of art. And although I was only half-way listening, I am pretty sure ranunculas are going to be involved and I do love ranunculas.
- Claire found her shoes. They are fabulous and sparkly and perfect for Claire.
- The lovebirds have booked their mini-moon for a long weekend. I would tell you where they are going but we all know that Claire secretly works for the CIA and I don't want to get on their bad side.
- They registered at Target but found out just this morning that their registry didn't save correctly and all that is left in it is a humidifier. Wonderful for sleeping, unfortunate for dinner guests.
- Noah is going to be the "ring boy," as he calls it. I am pretty sure he is going to rock it.
- There will be dancing at the reception dinner on Friday. And when it comes to dancing, my dad is as smooth as butter. Case in point:
- Programs have been created and Claire and my mom are buying the paper today. I love nice paper. Is that weird?
- I just realized I have to give a speech. I wonder if I could make it a musical number as well.
- My mom, sister and I are power shoppers. When we get in the zone, a lot can be accomplished...and purchased.
- It is starting to look more like wedding week around here. Even the animals are getting into it.
Thank you again for your encouragement and cheerleading. Seriously, you all are tops!

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 4
I am happy to report that Day 4 was much smoother than Day 3. Noah is up and around, acting like his normal six year-old self.
But let me tell you what's not normal: staples in the head. There is nothing normal about that at all. I wish I could tell you that I didn't get a little lightheaded when I saw his battle wound, but that would be a lie. I did get woozy but that just confirmed my decision to never enter into a medical profession. I have saved many lives by that decision.
So here are the latest wedding stats, my friends:

So here are the latest wedding stats, my friends:
- Claire is somehow managing to stay upright most of the time. I consider this a small victory.
- Her three dresses from J.Crew arrived and she vetoed all of them. SO...that leaves us with the dress from David's Bridal. I just called and purchased it, she has a hem alteration appointment tomorrow and it should be ready by Thursday evening, with a steam clean included. Can we all say "CLOSE CALL!?"
- They are still in the hunt for an apartment. I am now considering staying with my parents so they can make our condo a little love nest until they get their own place. I am trying to avoid an awkward roommate situation. I'll keep you posted on this.
- The great tux debate of 2011 came out victorious (for the girls, anyway) and all the boys have already or are currently being fitted for tuxes. Noah included, staples and all.
- A personal shower with her bridesmaids has been set for Tuesday evening.
- She is finalizing her flowers today at 3:30.
- A make-up artist will arrive at my parent's house on Friday to do our make-up. I am really excited about this one! And I am busting out the false eyelashes.
- A mani/pedi appointment has been scheduled for my mom, Claire and I for Thursday afternoon. Can you believe I have never had a manicure? It probably has something to do with the fact that I have no fingernails. I am hoping to grow them out in the next 5 days. However, I bite my nails when I am stressed so I am thinking I need to put a band aid on each one until then. Typing may be difficult, but sacrifices must be made, people.
- My dresses have supposedly shipped. I am not nervous yet but I may do a little looking at Nordstrom today just in case.
- My mom found her outfit last night and it is DY-NO-MITE. Seriously, so gorgeous! We just walked into Dillard's and found everything she needed. It was awesome.
- Claire and Carr are having their first pre-marital counseling session today. I love this.
- The wedding planners are like angels from heaven who take care of everything we forget and then some.
- It snowed last night. I am not ready for snow.
- I am currently watching OU beat the snot out of Texas. Things are looking up, people!

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 3
Yesterday was all about perspective.
Perspective that at the end of next Friday Claire and Carr will be married and they will be the happiest couple I know.
Perspective that God loves both the details and the big picture. He is both left brain and right brain, isn't that wild?
Perspective that no, I don't know where I am going to live or who I am going to live with (I got that question 4 times yesterday, 2 of which by complete strangers!), but God does.
Perspective that sometimes warm brownies really do make the world seem like a better place.
And perspective about this kid.
He was hurt yesterday. A strong wind blew a sign off of a building that he and his mom were coming out of and it fell on his head. At that very moment, a firetruck full of firemen (angels, I'm sure) pulled into the parking lot and saw what happened and rushed to help. An ambulance was called and transported him to the nearest hospital, and several hours later his sweet head was full of staples and stitches.
Thankfully he was never knocked unconscious but I can only imagine how much worse it could have been.
Perspective is a really good thing, my friends.
A bridesmaid dress can wait another day.

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 2
You guys are fantastic cheerleaders. Seriously, I love reading your comments and I can hear you cheering us on from afar. You're probably busting out the spirit fingers too. Take a picture and send it to me; I would love to see your spirit fingers.
Well, yesterday was a reality check, my friends. The to-do list got a little longer, we each became a bit more fatigued and not one of my three dresses has actually shipped from the warehouse. Darn you, Dillard's!!
But in the midst of all this reality, two of the most amazing, most stupendous, most generous people entered our lives: wedding planners. They are friends of my mom's and they run a wedding planning business together. And they have offered their services to us as a gift. A GIFT! Can you even believe it? It blows my mind. And they came just in the nick of time because I was one to-do list away from ending up on COPS.
Here's the latest:

And they came just in the nick of time because I was one to-do list away from ending up on COPS.
Here's the latest:
- Claire's dress, shoes and gloves arrived yesterday. The dress was beautiful and the shoes were drool-worthy. However, they were not quite the look Claire was going for in an evening wedding. She was a bit disappointed but she still has a back-up dress available at David's and she has ordered three more from J.Crew that will arrive tomorrow. And I am pretty sure I am going to have to go on blood pressure medicine. (Here is a picture of the dress that DID NOT work. Notice the killer shoes.):
- The apartment they had hoped to rent is actually not going to work for them. They are on the hunt for another one, wanting to avoid having me as their roommate. Awkward.
- I have found that when you combine fatigue, out-of-control hormones and stress with my charming personality you have a recipe for a crazed lunatic. This lunatic only comes out at night and can often be seen in stretchy pants.
- The flowers, although I thought had been ordered, are actually, in fact, not ordered. But here is where the glorious wedding planners enter the picture. Claire, mom, Carr and I sat down with one of them last night and she promptly went through a check-list and said she could take care of all of it. ALL. OF. IT. The jewels in her crown just got bigger.
- They have decided upon carrot cake. They could have decided upon a tractor tire just as long as it is covered in cream cheese frosting.
- There is an ongoing debate on whether or not tuxedos should be mandatory. I am voting yes because the last thing we need is for a groomsman to show up in a polo and cargo shorts.
- I need to go shoe shopping. How ever will I survive?
- I just spoke with Claire and she has had three cups of coffee already. We need to get that girl a nap. Pronto.
- I have a pimple. Awesome.
- Boys do absolutely nothing when it comes to wedding planning. NOTHING. My dad and brother are living it up right now.

How To Pull Off A Wedding in 10 Days - Day 1
Okay, things are rolling, peeps. It is amazing how much can happen in a 48-hour time period, especially when that is 1/5 of your time to plan a wedding.
Yesterday was Day 1 and here is what has happened so far:
Yesterday was Day 1 and here is what has happened so far:
- Claire has ordered a dress and it should arrive today. And oh my word, I am really excited to see it. She ordered it from the Anthropologie Wedding line called BHLDN. Super cute, super vintagy, and super Claire.
- They have reserved the chapel at the University of Denver for 7:00 pm. Since she is an alumna, she got a sweet discount. And it is perfect for a small wedding ceremony.
- She has picked out her flowers.
- She has booked a photographer.
- Her hair appointment is scheduled.
- A personal shower is in the works.
- They found an apartment, the only one-bedroom apartment left in the complex that they wanted. This is a huge relief because it was going to get mighty cozy in our condo.
- My brother is playing the guitar for the ceremony.
- I am going to buy a new pair of Spanx.
- They have reserved a private room in a restaurant with a dance floor.
- We both have cried everyday.
- I now realize I have to give back her salad spinner.
Things are shaping up! It becomes obvious more each day that this is exactly how it was supposed to happen. Now all we need is a cake and one of my three dresses to arrive and we will be set!
Cracked
I had a dream last night that the screen on my iPad cracked.
And I was really sad about it.
And then I remember thinking "I thought these were made out of the same material that helicopter windshields were made out of?"
And then I thought, "I need to call Steve Jobs and talk to him about this."
And then I concluded, "I will never fly in a helicopter ever again."
And then I woke up and hugged my iPad.
...
This is not normal.

Big, Ginormous News.
Y'all.
You might want to sit down for this.
My mind is still reeling. And I could really use a nap. But I have a feeling that isn't going to happen for at least the next 10 days.
On Sunday, after my fun 5K walk, I came home to take a nap and go dress shopping with Claire. However, right before we were supposed to leave, Claire and Carr asked my mom and I how we felt if they moved up their wedding.
Now, this did not surprise me because they have already moved their date from March 17 to February 4. And since these two have been counting the minutes until their wedding since their second date, I figured pushing it up a few more weeks was no big deal. It would just mean that she would have to find her dress today and I would have to begin a no-sugar, no-carbs, no-calorie diet immediately.
But then she said, "We were thinking of moving it to next Friday."
Crickets chirping.
And then I am pretty sure my head exploded.
After our initial shock, my mom and I came up with all the pros and cons as to having it so soon. And we still went dress shopping, keeping in mind that we may possibly need to find a dress that she could wear right now. And after a longer discussion with my parents, and his parents, they decided to sleep on it and meet in the morning to make a decision.
That was yesterday morning and I am happy (scared, terrified, tired, elated, overwhelmed) to say that they are, in fact, getting married next Friday.
As in NEXT FRIDAY.
As in October 14.
Which is NEXT Friday.
Claire called me at work yesterday to tell me the news. In response, I hyperventilated and immediately got online to find a dress. I promptly ordered three from Dillard's in hope that one of them may possibly work for a MOH dress in which I will need to wear NEXT FRIDAY. I then emailed the bridesmaids to discuss throwing her a personal shower, called my mom to make sure none of us were going crazy and then I tried to get some work done.
"Tried" being the operative word.
Before I go on I must say that they have moved up the wedding for very important reasons. If they waited longer, they ran the chance of some of the closest people in their lives not being able to attend. And Claire also suffers from terrible migraines, which has already limited her wedding planning. And besides, they are crazy about each other and don't want the hassle and stress of having a wedding months away. The ceremony will be small and for family and wedding party only but they are planning a big reception with all of their friends and extended family in the near future.
So, we are now on track to planning a wedding in 10 days. Big or small, the elements to any wedding are the same: venue, dress, food, music, cake, photographer and people. Now, they just have to do it faster.
Much, much faster.
So stay tuned as I blog about this 10-day marathon to the altar! And if you have tips, I would love to hear them. Also, feel free to bring me a latte and a masseuse anytime you are in the neighborhood. I guarantee one of us will need it.
